    wireless thermometer

This wireless thermometer works extremely well and is easyto set up - but you absolutely must follow the directions exactly.Range is excellent - but just make sure that some large object suchas a metal shed or a large oak tree is not in line-of-sight betweenany of the transmitters and the receiver.I am using 3 of these temp sensors with the 915 MHz receiver. Onesensor came with the receiver, and I just purchased two more, since thereceiver can display up to three different temperatures from threesensors. However be advised that if you carry one or more of thesesensors out of range and the receiver loses track of it, you absolutelymust take the batteries out of all three sensors and out of thereceiver and re-initialize all of them. This is not a difficult step, since I did it several times while playing around with the sensors tosee how much range they had - which resulted in the receiver... 5/5 Retired "dmk42" (Huntsville, Alabama, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) OK at best...

I bought a couple of these this last Christmas (2009), one for a gift and one to use myself. I liked the idea of the large read out and the simplicity of the display. Time, inside temp, and outside temp. I didn't see the need for the full blown weather station with the ability to forecast the weather. Somehow I don't think a simple device can do what mankind has struggled with for the last 100 years at least. But I digress...As stated, the readout is big and clear so that's a plus. It requires little knowledge to set it up correctly. Just follow the included instructions and you'll be up and running in 5 minutes. I've only had it running now for two months but the regular alkaline batteries are holding up well. With the remote set about 80 - 100 feet away it indicates with a flashing icon that it's receiving the signal fine. So that's all good. Now the bad. Or maybe I should say "not so good." It's accuracy is questionable to be sure. Even putting... 3/5 TheDougmeister - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) 0 5/5 raincrow - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Extech 401014 Big Digit Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer (Tools & Home Improvement) This is a great unit, It has exactly what I wanted, a large display (1" Numbers) without any other readouts such as Clocks, humidity etc. It is very accurate as I compared it to a bare bulb thermometer. The only down side is viewing in a dark room or from an angle, like all the unlit digital readouts they are hard to see in dark spaces or from an angle. I plan to make a flexible mount for mine so I can adjust for best view. I had an old Heathkit indoor/outdoor thermometer with a lighted readout that finally quit on me after 30 years of service, since they are no longer available I believe this is the next best thing. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 22, 2010

Great wireless range, 2nd sensor reads high

I chose this unit due to its long advertised wireless range (330 feet). It is working great for me. In my installation, the remote is about 60 feet from from the base station, with the wireless signal going through an outside wall. Reception is 100% solid. What's not entirely clear in the description is that the remote has two sensors: one built into the housing, and a 2nd on a 10 foot cord. The 2nd sensor plugs in and can be removed if not needed.Prior to installation, I set up the base station and remote (with both sensors) in the same room. Both the base station and main remote temperature agreed to within 0.1 degree, and agreed with other thermometers I have. However, the 2nd sensor consistently reads 1 to 2 degrees higher. So I have some doubts about the 2nd sensor's accuracy. However, since I only use the main sensor this isn't a problem for me.My other concern is that the remote sensor is not waterproof. A decent, simple digital thermometer and remote sensor

I recently started homebrewing beer, and I bought this thermometer about six weeks ago to monitor the temperature of the beer as it ferments.General comments:- I like the size of the base. It's not some huge contraption that takes up a lot of room on my desk. I don't need it to predict the weather, I just wanted something to tell me the temperature locally, and at a remote sensor (which it does well!).- The base LCD offers good contrast, as long as you look down at it slightly. At perpendicular, and anything below that (ie: if you look up at it), the LCD appears fuzzy and dim. But I compared this to my other digital thermometer, and it suffers from the same problem, I'd just never noticed it before. The screen is not backlit, but if I need to see it in the dark, I just turn on my computer monitor, my cell phone, etc.- The unit seems to be quite sensitive to small temperature changes. For bigger, more sudden changes in temperature, both the sensor and the... 4/5 anonymousinaustin (Austin, Texas USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-9029U Wireless Weather Station with Digital Time (Kitchen) I recently started homebrewing beer, and I bought this thermometer about six weeks ago to monitor the temperature of the beer as it ferments.General comments:- I like the size of the base. 0 5/5 History Buff (Pacific NW) - See all my reviews This review is from: AcuRite 00831A2 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer (Kitchen) Have used this for 2 yrs now, just replacing the batteries last month. This unit has recorded temperatures from 4 F to ~100F for me.I purchased it locally and paid more.I like these things about it:A) small counter footprint (2.5" x 1.7"), and OK looks, let me keep it on kitchen counter where it can be seen. It's the first thing I look at in morning.B) Records high / low outdoor temp reading. good, I know how cold it got last night. Hi/low is easy to reset via button, 2 seconds, by feel w/o glasses.C) outdoor temp is accurate. 25' distance, next to a liquid thermometer which reads so close to same that now I only use this Acu-Rite one.Got a second unit as a gift a year ago. Recipient uses his w/o problems as far as I know. If, if unit failed at this point, I think I'd just buy another. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 13, 2011

This review is from: AcuRite 00831A2 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer (Kitchen) The indoor part of the thermometer worked correctly, but the outside unit was always at least 5 degrees off. The outside sending unit was only about 15 feet away from my desk, and only my window was in the way of the signal. I had it under an eave and well protected sun, rain, etc. Fortunately, Amazon credited my account for the full amount and the experience was hastle-free. Not a precision instrument, but a good value

0 5/5 Idler (Boston MA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Taylor 1522 Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer (Kitchen) The description of this thermometer claims 1 degree resolution for both F and C, but the actual resolution is more like 2 degrees F. But at the price (~$10 with shipping) there's no complaint. The thermometer readings seem accurate, the outside probe and inside sensor have different response characteristics so that there is a delay in the temperature readings. When I originally turned it on I was disappointed that the two temperatures weren't identical when the remote probe was at the display unit, but after waiting a while the readings were identical, it was just that the thermal time reponse of the display unit thermometer and the remote sensor are different - the remote sensor seems faster to respond.I've been using it to monitor the air temperature at warm air heating registers - the 10 foot cable to the sensor makes this very easy.I'm very satisfied.update 26 months later (feb 2012): still working just fine ... 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 24, 2009

0 5/5 BruceB "Bruce" (Michigan) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Taylor 1522 Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer (Kitchen) My truck has a fancy-shmancy mirror with built-in compass and thermometer. When I got a used car, I missed these features so I bought a Type S digital compass (see separate review for the compass) and a taylor 1522 thermometer for my car. The thermometer is a little bit big (4X3), but I found a spot next to the instrument panel where it fit nicely. I found a path through the firewall for the sensor wire and mounted the sensor right behind the front grill where it is exposed to the air while driving (this is the same area where the sensor is located in my truck). Accuracy seems pretty good for the outdoor sensor when compared to other outdoor thermometers. The only problem is it has no light -- I have to turn on the dome light in order to check it at night -- but at such a cheap price I don't care. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 10, 2010

    Very reliable and accurate

0 4/5 j'Orel Miller - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: General DTR900 Digital Recording Thermometer with External Probe (Misc.) I have two of these. One has been in use for several years. I read a review that said the outside and inside temperatures aren't the same when the outside probe is placed next to the unit. This has not been my experience; when I do this, the temps are within .5 degrees F of each other. The outside probe responds to temperature changes much faster than the inside base unit, so if you test the unit this way, you need to wait a while for the inside unit to catch up to the outside probe reading.I would have given this five stars, except there doesn't seem to be any way to reverse the outside and inside readings (for example, to use the unit on the outside of a freezer to monitor the inside temperature of the freezer). In this application, "outside" is really "inside". 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 16, 2014

Upon checking the temperature reading with the external probe next to the unit in the house over several days, the external probe consistantly reads up to 2.5 degrees farenheit warmer. With both temperature guages in the same location they should be identical. I checked very carefully, and this *is* the model I have. This is a GREAT, easy to set up, easy to use product that I wouldn't trade for anything. It has been prominent in my kitchen for over a year now, and I love it!There is a slight catch: you do have to read the directions. This is a very minor complaint and after I got used to it (again, about five minutes), it hasn't thrown me off since.Again, yes, you have to put a thermometer outside to have the outside temperature. GREAT product, with a few flaws

My husband and I purchased two of these clocks two years ago. I LOVE this clock, but it does have two major flaws.First, the Moon phases ARE correct, as anyone who reads the instructions will discover. When the clock gets information about the moon phases, it fills in each space with color, which translates to the visible parts of the moon being dark on the clock. So when the display is completely black, it is a full moon. When the display is empty, the moon is not visible. Still, it would be nice if the display were changed so the white parts of the display corresponded with the white part of the moon, so that it is more intuitive.Secondly, the temperature reading is wonderful, WHEN it works! The indoor temperature is always accurate, and useful for gauging how long to keep the heat on, etc. The outdoor temperature will be accurate as long as it is placed appropriately - no direct sunlight, no boxed in overhangs; basically no place where there would be... 3/5 Sarah Hailey (Flagstaff, AZ USA) - See all my reviews, December 6, 2005

    This thing is GREAT!

I've noticed a couple of people have had issues with the moon phases display, and I had the same confusion myself when I first got it, but it DOES correctly display the phases correctly! When the display is fully black, it's a new moon. When there is nothing in the phase display, it's a full moon. It makes sense once you get used to reading it.The only "problem" I have had with this is having to replace the batteries in the clock and transmitter every 6 to 8 months. For that reason, I highly reccomend a quality battery. (I'm partial to Duracell myself). And I have no beef with having to place the OUTDOOR tempature sensor OUTDOORS to get an OUTDOOR tempature reading. I would think the phrase "outdoor sendor" might be a clue! Anyway the outdoor sesnor works fine, and is always within 1 or 2 degrees of the local news or online reports. As far as the clock itself, it's great having the correct time (almost) all the time. After one week of normal use the Timex TX5170 stopped functioning: The readout displayed random digits. The battery tested fine (1.5 volts on my voltmeter), but I decided to give the TX5170 the benefit of the doubt, so I went out and bought a new alkaline AAA battery and installed it. And, lo and behold, the TX5170 sprang back to life -- for six hours. Then it gave up the ghost completely. Installing ANOTHER new alkaline battery did no good.I once met a retired advertising executive who purported to be the guy who came up with Timex's classic slogan, "It Takes A Licking But Keeps on Ticking." My problems with the Timex TX5170 recalled this slogan to my mind. "Perhaps that's the problem," I said to myself. So I covered the TX5170 with chocolate syrup and proceed to lick it. Alas, still only random digits in the readout. [Just kidding.]The online product description states that the TX5170 is covered by "Timex's one-year warranty." The battery tested fine (1.5 volts on my voltmeter), but I decided to give the TX5170 the benefit of the doubt, so I went out and bought a new alkaline AAA battery and installed it. [Just kidding.]The online product description states that the TX5170 is covered by "Timex's one-year warranty." That sounds good, only the... Cant't take lower temps

0 2/5 Fae Kname - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: AcuRite 00606 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer with Clock (Kitchen) I had this on a jaunt on Mt. Rainer. I wanted to see how well my shelter was insulated from the outside. Most of the night the display just said LL (lower limit). the other thermometers said it was 14*f. This might be OK if you are using it in Mexico. But don't expect a reading when things drop to 20*f. All in all I'm disappointed. I cant' recommend this for anything beyond seeing if your birdbath will have ice in it. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 11, 2014

    Outside Temp 6 Degrees Low

0 1/5 Neal (Jacksonville, FL United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: AcuRite 00606 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer with Clock (Kitchen) Bought one of these as a replacement for a LaCrosse brand unit that finally died. The outside unit when left sitting on the counter next to the base unit is consistently 6 degrees low! Now will have to go back to the old brand. Very disappointing. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 10, 2014

    Barely Functional

0 1/5 blueberrylolli (NJ, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Taylor 1523 Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer and Hygrometer (Kitchen) This product is not worth $10. Its temperature and humidity gauge is barely functional. The construction is shoddy, the backlight does not work, even with fully charged 1 AAA battery, the screen is only visible at 40-50% opacity, and sometimes is completely not visible unless you tilt it up and down and keep adjusting and maybe it'll come back on. If they had priced it at $3.99 it would have been more worth it. I'm very disappointed. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 20, 2008
