About this book
The need to provide erosion control on bare soil slopes and channels is a critical issue that spans the globe. Rolled erosion control products (RECPs) have proven themselves to be effective in reducing soil losses and have taken the place of many traditional technologies. Despite their widespread use, engineers are often given little guidance on the design and selection of RECPs beyond maximum allowable slopes and shear stresses. Many different types of RECPs often meet the requirements for a particular set of site conditions. Similarly, C-factors, which incorporate the effects of ground cover in the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), are not provided by all manufacturers and the values that are provided are for particular soils and rainfall and runoff erosivities. RECPs can vary significantly in basic fiber properties, index properties, and laboratory and field performance.

0 4/5 Macymeister "kochave" - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: LingsFire® Digital LCD Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer Humidity Hygrometer With Min/ Max Value And Clock When I compared its accuracy to a much more expensive device, the indoor temperature tracked very close, within a few tenths of a degree. The outdoor probe was fairly accurate, usually read about .5 to 1 degree warmer then the indoor temperature indicated. More then enough accuracy for a device like this. Can't comment on the humidity readings, but they seem to be fairly accurate. The small sheet of "instructions" appear to have been written in China or someplace like that. Takes a while to figure out what they are trying to say, although it doesn't take much to set up and use the device. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 15, 2014

    Erratic?

This equipment is frustrating. It is, as the first reviewer said, very easy to get going. Despite caveats in the instructions about situations where the units may not be able to communicate well enough, we have had the full quantity of signal strength bars showing on the main unit display no matter where we place the units, even when the signal has to go between concrete floors and through external concrete walls. Remarkably good. The bar display feature is notably worthwhile. We have now had the 00611 for about three months.Initially, the two units agreed with each other out of the package when placed side by side, which is of course how it should be.However, we have recently had to do this sort of side-by-side test again as the reading from the outdoor unit started getting 'stuck' at an unlikely 98% when humidity was very high, but wouldn't come down, even when brought indoors for a while. [The spec. says that the units' operating range... 3/5 Ian Walters (Honolulu, HI) - See all my reviews, April 24, 2009

0 5/5 zimmazam "zimmazam" (New York) - See all my reviews This review is from: AcuRite 00611A3 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer and Humidity Sensor (Kitchen) There are a number of negative reviews of this product and the primary complaints are accuracy and failures to function. I have had the same unit for over 2 years and have gifted units to my parents and my sister's family. The remote sensor transmits effectively from any practical distance. The display shows the temperatures and humidity inside and out in an easy to read format. It also shows the outdoor temperature trend in an easy to read form which is a neat feature. Folks who complain about the unit's operation may have gotten a lemon and should exchange it. Accuracy is always close to the media reported temps and humidity. I bought my unit at one of the big home improvement stores and paid $20 on sale. When xmas came around, I bought 2 more units for family and paid $25 so the Amazon price seems higher than it should. Nevertheless my family deemed it one of the best and most practical christmas presents ever! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 20, 2011

    Grossly inaccurate

0 1/5 El Lobo - See all my reviews This review is from: AcuRite 00611A3 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer and Humidity Sensor (Kitchen) I purchased this about four years ago because I was wanted the outdoor humidity sensor feature. I had previously been using a Taylor indoor/outdoor wireless thermometer and was very pleased with its performance and accuracy. But I wanted to see the outdoor humidity as well.I installed the batteries and placed the indoor unit next to another digital indoor humidity sensor and an analog dial humidity sensor. The indoor and analog sensors agreed, the Acu-rite indoor reading was about seven percentage points lower. Now, after a number of years of use, I have found that the outdoor humidity reading is consistently low by about 10 percentage points, particularly at high temperatures, when it counts the most. I consider this error unacceptable, even for a home unit, and do not recommend this product. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 24, 2010

Not as accurate as they claim

0 3/5 mili (New York) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: NEEWER® Digital LCD Indoor Outdoor Thermometer and Hygrometer With C/F Unit I'd say it is a pretty decent thermometer from a looks standpoint but not as accurate as they claim since the internal and external sensors my unit show a temperature that is more than 2 degrees F apart, actually close to 3 after leaving them in a room for an hour. I guess you can't expect too much of a cheap thermometer but since they claim that it is accurate to +-1 degree I was hoping it would be a bit better. The thermometer is rather big compared to most similar designs I have seen, the front is 125mm x 70mm, but that makes it easy to read from across the room. One major issue for me was the short sensor cable, which limits your options when installing it. Since it was a lot shorter than my old thermometer, it is just under 60 inches (150cm) long, I had to move it to a different window. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 17, 2014

Great hygrometer, but not great for chicken incubators

0 5/5 Fern C. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: AODE® New Digital LCD Indoor Outdoor Weather Humidity Hygrometer Thermometer Meter Gauge C / F 130015 (Kitchen) I purchased two of these to be used in chicken egg incubators. I find them to be extremely accurate in both humidity and temperature. The probe also seems to be quite accurate. The probe is meant to be placed outside to give you both an outside and inside humidity reading. This works great if you are using this item as for weather purposes. But if you are using it for incubators, there is a slight problem, so be warned. If you put the box outside the incubator and drop the probe down into the incubator (which is what I intended to do) you will get the temperature and humidity OUTSIDE the incubator and ONLY the humidity INSIDE the incubator. The only way to use this item to give you BOTH humidity and temperature INSIDE the incubator is to use it actually inside the incubator and not use the probe at all. If I had known that, I probably would have gotten something else, but that is my fault, not the product's fault. It works perfectly for what it was designed to do. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 25, 2014

0 2/5 RP Berg - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: AODE® New Digital LCD Indoor Outdoor Weather Humidity Hygrometer Thermometer Meter Gauge C / F 130015 (Kitchen) Temperature seems accurate, I double checked with another thermometer. But the probe basically doesn't work for humidity, I had to get a seperate hygrometer, the humidity always reads 40°-50° when my terrarium is clearly humid and wet, the actual humidity ended up being 90° Inside the enclosure. Even if it we're reading the humidity outside of the terrarium, it's still horribly inaccurate. So accurate for temp, but a total waste if you really want an all-in-one. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 6, 2014

This unit tells outdoor Temp & outdoor Humidity.I had the Honeywell unit first and was nervous buying this one hoping they were the same. Oh yeah, they are exact copies with only the name on them being different, but the MEADE unit is less expensive. I don't like paying for names.Remote:The unit comes with a remote that you place outside. On the remote there is a display that shows the temp and humidity it is reading. So, if you place the remote on a tree or something you now have 2 units telling the temp & humidity. The manufacture recommends using lithium batteries in the remote if it will be used in extreme cold. Good unit - spotty QC

We've been using the Honeywell branded version of this unit at the office for the last year, so I ordered the Meade version (to save some money) and an extra remote sensor for home. The main unit I received would not pick up signals from the remotes. The replacement sent from Amaazon is working fine, but the QC issue kept me from giving 5 stars. Our house has a 3-zone heating/cooling system, so I mounted the main unit next to the thermostat on the main level, one remote upstairs in the master, and the add'l remote in the basement. By setting the main unit to "cycle" I get temp/humidity readings in all three levels every 10 seconds. Concerns about distance and the range of the remotes did not materialize. They work fine. Both of my installations have had the remotes inside, so can't speak to ability of remotes to handle outside conditions. The Honeywill and Meade units (both TM005X) seem to be identical except for logo, so seems like you pay for the Honeywell name but... 4/5 Elmo (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) It just arrived yesterday; I thought I would share my initial impressions, while they remain fresh in my mind. I'll try to remember to update this later if anything changes. My bottom line -- I recommend it, and would purchase it again. It does just what I want, does it well, and has a fairly simple screen with nice big digits -- nice and readable. I am happy with my choice.Consistency -- Very good. I had the base and remote units side-by-side on my desk for awhile to see whether they at least showed the same temperature, and they did -- sometimes identical, and never off by more than 0.2 degrees. That could well be round-off error and/or minor air current differences. (Reviews for some other brands/models are not that good.)Accuracy -- I don't have another thermometer to compare against. I can say that the outdoor reading stays within a degree or three of what my computer reports the airport (several miles away) was reporting. OK at best...

I bought a couple of these this last Christmas (2009), one for a gift and one to use myself. I liked the idea of the large read out and the simplicity of the display. Time, inside temp, and outside temp. I didn't see the need for the full blown weather station with the ability to forecast the weather. Somehow I don't think a simple device can do what mankind has struggled with for the last 100 years at least. But I digress...As stated, the readout is big and clear so that's a plus. It requires little knowledge to set it up correctly. Just follow the included instructions and you'll be up and running in 5 minutes. I've only had it running now for two months but the regular alkaline batteries are holding up well. With the remote set about 80 - 100 feet away it indicates with a flashing icon that it's receiving the signal fine. So that's all good. Now the bad. Or maybe I should say "not so good." This review is from: Ambient Weather WS-10 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor 8-Channel Thermo-Hygrometer with Three Remote Sensors (Misc.) I have a couple of minor issues with the Ambient Weather WS-10 Station itself. I have four external sensors installed; three within 20 feet of the receiver and the fourth at about 45 feet. Unless I use lithium batteries in the sensors I get random communication drop outs. Kind of a pain, but they come back online after a while.I also ordered a WS-07 station. The WS-07 allows me to see min and max values on all four remotes, but the WS-10 only shows min and max on the first three. The good points are that all sensors are within 1°F of each other and 2% humidity of each other. If the areas you want to monitor are within 50 feet and you aren't interested in all of the Min and Max values, I'd recommend this device. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 26, 2013

No frills, works just like it says. UPDATED.

Easy to read and easy to use. I like how all of the remotes come pre-configured and everything uses AAA batteries. This is a no frills unit that simply tells you the temp and the humidity levels on each remote. Overall, I am quite pleased with the unit.Update 1/1/2014:For some reason all of the sensors drop out all of the time. Usually it is one at a time and sometimes it comes back, most of the time I do a battery pull on the main unit and it finds them again. Oddly it seems to be the sensors CLOSEST to the main unit that drop out. It is very annoying. Moving from 4 stars to 2 at the moment.Update 1/25/2014:After a lot of experimentation, all 4 units seem to stay in sync. I had to move the base close to two of the sensors as apparently 2 walls an a door is a bit too much for it to communicate through. My home does have metal studs as opposed to wood. I am not sure if that causes more interference.Moving back to 4... 4/5 Ted - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Ambient Weather WS-10 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor 8-Channel Thermo-Hygrometer with Three Remote Sensors (Misc.) Easy to read and easy to use. Read more Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 12, 2013

The display console can remotely read and update up to eight remote thermo-hygrometer sensors.
Simple to read, simple to use, and affordable, the WS-10 includes an indoor thermo-hygrometer inside the console, and three remote thermometer-hygrometer sensors (F007TH), which are all displayed at the same time.
The console displays temperature and humidity, minimum and maximum temperature and humidity, which can be manually reset.
The console includes audible and visual alarms when temperature and humidity exceed your pre-set minimum and maximum alarm settings.
The WS-10 includes three remote thermometer-hygrometers, and five additional sensors can be added (F007TH, F007TP, F007T, F007PF) for comprehensive monitoring.

    Problems with wireless communication

0 3/5 Amazon Customer (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Springfield 91756 Wireless Thermometer with Indoor/Outdoor Temperature and Humidity (Kitchen) This is my third Springfield Wireless Thermometer. The other two worked fine for extended periods until the Florida weather finally ate them up. I put the new units exactly where I had the two previous units but this one will not maintain contact with the base station. The range of the wireless should be the same but this new unit cannot communicate unless the units are near each other.Don't know if I got a bad unit or if the new units have much less wireless range than the older units.Cannot recommend this unit unless they are within about 10 meters of each other. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 9, 2010
