1, if each lamp has 220 ohms resistance, the two lamps in series will have 220 - f- 220 = 440 ohms. This is just as it should be, since if the lamps are for 110 volts and connected to 220 volts, they are connected to double the voltage ...

Seems to work well, some minor quibbles

This transformer has worked admirably so far. I used it on a trip to India, and it worked well. It doesn't make any noise while in use, and it seems to stay reasonably cool. Not like I'm drawing all that much wattage through it, but it seems to be just fine.Just a few quibbles:1. The 110-volt North American plug offered on the front of the unit has a spot for a grounding prong, but the unit itself is not grounded. I still cannot fathom the logic of that design choice. Especially in India, where European plugs are *required* to have a grounding prong. You can't get a plug like this one into the outlet without one; the outlets have an internal safety device that only opens when a grounding prong is inserted into the outlet. Sadly, the only way I could get this to work in India was to insert a pen in the grounding prong hole to release the safety and then insert the plug into the power holes.2. The only justification I could find for not... 3/5 Bill Stein "CJ" (Colorado Springs) - See all my reviews, April 5, 2009

I left it plugged in for several weeks with no overheating issues. Also, the "pigtail" plug is perfect: Most transformers have the plug attached and can be very heavy and clunky when hanging from a socket. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 5, 2008

This review is from: Seven Star Power Converter AC220-240V to AC110-120V and AC110-120V to AC220-240V (Personal Computers) Step Up/Down transformers are tricky devices. It's not hard to see why so many users gave negative reviews. But in order to use a converter without any problems, you need to be mindful of 2 things:1) The required current (in terms of ampere rating) of the device that you are powering.2) Whether the device is motorized. If you are using a transformer/converter such as this one for a battery charger or cell phone charger, then you shouldn't run into any overheating or shutdown issues. But if you are using it for a hairdryer or another device with heavy moving parts (like an old tape recorder that uses 3 motors), then you need to pay special attention to #1 and ensure that the wattage rating of the transformer/converter is actually 20 to 30 watts greater than the motorized device's rated power consumption. These are the precautions I took and it worked perfectly for me. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 30, 2011

    Excellent product

This is a very useful product if you ever want to use a US electrical appliance in Europe or in Asia which are usually on 240V (or vice versa). It is slightly heavy but I guess you can't make it any lighter because of the transformer. One thing to remember is that the voltage selector switch displays the INPUT voltage and NOT the output voltage. So you would set the switch to 110V if your power supply is 110V and NOT if you want to connect an appliance that runs on 110V. Setting the switch to 110V will give you 240V at the converter output. Be very careful with this or you might end up frying your appliance and/or burning out the fuse in your electrical supply. You set the switch to 240V if your INPUT voltage is 240V and not if you want to run an appliance that works on 240V. Setting the switch to 240V will give you 110V at the converter output. This combination is not as dangerous because an appliance that expects 240V just wouldn't work if you... 5/5 Why do you care what my name is? Decent Enough Transformer, If Used Cautiously

Be very careful when approaching the load limit (200 watts) of this transformer/converter. After roughly two hours with an 181-watt (1.51 amp) load, one of my transformers overheated, melted, allowed a full 230 volt output surge for several seconds, and then blew the circuit breaker in my house. The unit remained extremely hot for several hours afterwards. In the meantime, I checked the load (which was resilient enough to be undamaged) with a Fluke multimeter to ensure it did not exceed 200 watts. The load remained steady at the level specified. That said, the other two transformers purchased are performing admirably in less demanding, low wattage, applications. I'm temporarily residing overseas. Since it gets tiresome toting around (and expensive buying) larger transformers for every little task, the compact size and low price of this transformer is well appreciated.--------DETERMINING TRANSFORMER REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEVICE YOU INTEND TO USE... 3/5 Fred Anonymous Smith (Huntsville. I had a MacBook, ipad, iPhone, electric razor and beard trimmer, and multiple portable batteries and I could charge everything all at once! Also with the power conversion I didn't have to worry about shorting out my electronics. Very compact and literally weighs nothing. If you're looking for a great power source while traveling internationally and worried about weight or power conversion this is the unit for you. Only con I'd say is the fan in the unit runs a bit loud. But aside from that I think this is a great product. Well worth the price. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 1, 2013

We have tried several power converters in the past, and it was disastrous. Gave up trying. The only reason I brought my Bernina Sewing Machine with me, was that my son in law thought it was able to convert to both power sources, and when we got it here, it did not work. We were very disappointed, tried several shops to see if they could help, but to no avail. Then my husband tried Amazon. My children will be buying several electrical appliances here in America that they can not buy back in South Africa and taking them home to South Africa with them, because they can convert the power on them with this voltage converter. I would recommend this voltage converter to any one, it is truly wonderful and inexpensive. We are very happy and give this converter a 5 star rating. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 3, 2014

Very good product, one minor issue

0 4/5 Pajo Patak - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) The voltage transformer is heavy, sturdy and reliable. I am in Switzerland now, and I bought these for barrage of devices brought from the U.S; I plugged in a humidifier, a blender, Vonage phone, laptop, shaver (all at once), and so far no issues whatsoever. The only catch is the wall converter from US to Euro (so that you can plug the thing into the wall jack) - It is too wide for Switzerland (would work in e.g. Germany). So I had to spend a couple of euros for a converter in a local store. Other than that, no issues in the first 45 days.... 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 8, 2010

    Defective out of the box

0 1/5 guitarguy - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Goldsource® STU-1000 Step Up & Down Voltage Converter Transformer with 5V USB Output - AC 110/220 V - 1000 WattI bought this item to use as a step up transformer from 120v to 240v so I could test products for export to Germany. I followed the directions and set the unit up properly but it does not output 240v. Instead of stepping up from 120 to 240v the jack on the front panel puts out only 120v. I opened it up and found a loose wire but it is not obvious where it should be connected. Also the workmanship inside is very shoddy. The tape wrapped around some of the solder joints is loose and the wire insulation is almost worn through in several spots. I would say that this device is a disaster waiting to happen. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 7, 2012

Works perfectly with my 52" hdtv and blu-ray player

0 5/5 JMR (Korea) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Got this so I could hook up my 110v 52" LCD HDTV and LG blu-ray player here in Europe. I plugged in a power strip to the 110v outlet, and it powers both items without a hitch. Also extremely quiet. If the entire house is silent you can hear the slightest low hum but as soon as the tv comes on then it's undetectable. Very happy with this purchase and may buy another. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 12, 2010

This review is from: Tmvel Universal Grounded Adaptor Plug Adapter Type I - Australia, New Zealand, Fiji & more - High Quality - CE Certified - RoHS Compliant - 2 in 1 - 1PC (Electronics) I'm Australian and I bought a GHD hair Iron from Amazon and I needed an Adaptor... Well this one.. I have NO complants... it fit perfect in a Power point along side other plugs... it's a perfect adapter... it also hugs the plugs... meaning the plug doesn't fall out of the adaptor like other plugs... and also this plug takes the 2 different US plugs... IT'S GREAT!!! I LIKE IT!!!! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 31, 2012

    Works well - good choice

0 5/5 GrünerTee (Baden-Württemberg) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Simran SMF-100 Universal 100W Travel Voltage Converter for Both 110-volt and 220/240-volt Worldwide Use (Tools & Home Improvement) The Simran SMF100 - Universal Travel Voltage Converter works as advertised. It fits into US sockets and takes virtually every possible plug. We have bought already several some months ago and they work great. Now we bought 3 more. We use them for low power European HIFi equipment and for European lamps. As long as the device has less than 100W there is no problem. We haven't tried to see what happens if we overload it yet.The converter sits well in the wall and holds plugs fine. It does not smell or make any noticable sounds. Therefore: 5 stars even though the price is not cheap, but seems appropriate. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 11, 2013

    Not work at all

0 1/5 Ahmad Hananadeh - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Simran SMF-100 Universal 100W Travel Voltage Converter for Both 110-volt and 220/240-volt Worldwide Use (Tools & Home Improvement) I followed the instruction written on the box, and the device's max output was 45W which was less than 100W just like the instruction said. Nothing I did was wrong, and cooked everything in the second and broke brand new electric device. Luckily all I need to replace is the AC adaptor, but I really wish that cost would be covered by the manufacturer. DO NOT BUY THIS!!! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 10, 2014

Sumatran Tiger Coffee Mug

tiger, sumatran tiger, endangered tiger,
The Sumatran Tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) is found only on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, and is critically endangered. It is the smallest of all living tiger subspecies, with adult males weighing between 100–140 kg (220–310 lb) and females 75–110 kg (170–240 lb). Their small size is an adaptation to the thick, dense forests of the island of Sumatra where they reside, as well as the smaller-sized prey. The wild population is estimated at between 400 and 500, seen chiefly in the island's national parks. Recent genetic testing has revealed the presence of unique genetic markers, indicating that it may develop into a separate species, if it does not go extinct. This has led to suggestions that Sumatran tigers should have greater priority for conservation than any other subspecies. While habitat destruction is the main threat to existing tiger population (logging continues even in the supposedly protected national parks), 66 tigers were recorded as being shot and killed between 1998 and 2000, or nearly 20% of the total population.
