    Did it's job

First let me say I don't profess to know much about metal detecting. I bought this metal detector to find my wedding ring, which flew off my finger the other night while I was playing volleyball in the backyard with the kids (it was a chilly night and the ring was loose on my finger.) After an hour of searching, I figured it was worth it to buy an inexpensive metal detector in hopes of finding my ring.I ordered it on Wednesday, it arrived on Friday (2 day shipping for $3.99 with prime.) I put the batteries in, read through the well-written booklet and did the tests it suggested. We had no problems finding the test objects (penny, quarter, nail) so I started "sweeping" the area where I thought it might be. I found it within 15 minutes. Granted, it wasn't buried in the ground or anything, but we did have several other "hits" that were definitely objects in the ground - strong signals but we just didn't take the time to dig since I knew my ring was buried in grass, not... 5/5 Amazon Customer (Northern California) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Excellent kids detector!

0 5/5 lazfran98 - See all my reviews This review is from: Bounty Hunter BHJS Junior Metal Detector (Tools & Home Improvement) This detector is excellent for kids, The size is just right and it introduces them into the world of detecting. The detector is of good solid quality and is a little version of an entry level adult model. You do have to explain to them how to use the discrimination controls because they are kind of confusing for a kid but they pick it up quick. The detector has actually found old cans and coins that have been about 5 feet underground so it searches pretty deep. I recommend this product! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 13, 2008

At under $170, this is the BEST metal detector money can buy. Take it from someone with 15+ years of hunting experience.

It all started for me a little over 15 years ago with an old White's 5900. My grandmother lost a ring somewhere in her massive, poorly maintained yard, and it was up to me (and a second hand 5900) to find it.Long story short, I did just that - and found out that I rather enjoyed hunting in the process.Over the years, I went through many more metal detectors before settling on the Time Ranger some time in 2010. My previously favorite MD was the Garrett Ace 250 (which my wife currently uses - used actually).Hunting is a great hobby, and will pay for itself within a few years (or much sooner if you are lucky).I spent a little over $400 on my Time Ranger, and it paid for itself on the third day - when I dug up a very nice ring (while hunting a popular beach).I went back there countless times over the years, and while I didn't get any more major finds, I do quite often get silver and gold rings, as well as massive amounts of coin. This alone should... 5/5 Samuel Mitchell (Florida) - See all my reviews, May 13, 2014

    Great for a Newbie

This unit works great! I'm a newb at this but word to the wise: READ THE MANUAL! (Several times if necessary) Putting the unit together took less than a minute, super easy. After reading the manual the first time, I completely missed the bit about how to pinpoint with the unit. After ground balancing and setting the unit to block out most iron metal, I tested it on jewelry and several coins on the sidewalk. Everything read mostly as it should, but I did need to play around with the sensitivity to make it pick up a base metal chain and my 14k gold earring. The gold read as 1-10 cents. We took it to the beach and even though we came across several hits in the sand, I had a hard time actually tracking down the coins that I knew were hidden there in the sand. We dug a HUMONGOUS hole in the sand with no luck, lol(yes, we carefully filled it back in). This is a motion detector, so it won't pick up anything unless the unit is moved from sided to side over the target. It's pretty hard... 5/5 N. This is the V4 latest version-not the one pictured but I'm OK with that as its a great value

I was hoping for the earlier (V2-3) Time Ranger because the older units had target ID in the all metal modes-wich I use a lot.But I must say even without the target ID the all metal mode is very capable in finding even the tiniest bits of metal or deeply burried coins. It is very sensitive & is best suited for prospecting or "hunted out" locations.I find it about the best choice for the sandy beaches of the Columbia River-it gets past the high mineralization and doesn't need constant fiddling with the ground balance so I can concentrate on signals..I did manage my deepest nickle-a 1958 @ 7" measured-that gave me enough of a signal in the discrimination mode to verify the target in the all metal mode. I was suprised by the depth-well past my pro-pointer even after my 5" plug was out.But what I really find unique about this unit is the notch allows you to select gold only range targets & ignore high conductors. Or even handier is the "sniff" mode-It... 5/5 Carl in Oregon (Fairview,Oregon) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) A "have to have" accessory for your metal detector

0 5/5 Carolyn Mathews (Horse Prairie, Montana) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Bounty Hunter HEAD-PL Metal Detector Headphones (Electronics) When researching metal detectors before buying a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV for a Christmas gift, I learned that using earphones with the detector not only makes hearing the "beeps" much easier, but also extends the battery life of the battery in the detector. We live in a windy, windy canyon area, so I knew the earphones were a necessity because of the constant wind noise. My husband says that the earphones effectively screen out noise that would overpower the emissions from the detector if he weren't wearing the headset. He's a happy camper with his Bounty Hunter Tracker IV and the Bounty Hunter stereo earphones. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 16, 2006

This detector is easy to use and works well.

This metal detector is easy to use and I really like it's digital display that ACCURATELY identifies the type of metal found. I got it as a gift for my dad, but couldn't help trying it out before giving it to him. As a test, it easily found coins and keys tossed randomly thru the yard. I've also found coins and nails that were lost years before. I also successfully used it to find an odd-shaped aluminum spacer that dropped from my motorcycle somewhere in the gravel driveway. I'm giving this one to my dad, but will buy another for myself. The motorcycle parts incident convinced me this detector is well worth the $90. I would suggest buying a 4x4 plastic tarp, small shovel, and some gardening hand troughs and rakes for use while detecting. We developed a good technique for yard-metal detecting. After getting a signal, cut up a cube of earth. Place the cube of earth on the tarp. Scan the cube to see if the metal is in it. Use the hand tools to break up the dirt cube and find... 4/5 Scottro (Pittsburgh, PA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Only one Major Problem!

Let me start by saying this was a gift for my dad. Hes been wanting a metal detector for as long as I remember. My mom and I did some collaborating and I purchased the Quick Silver on Amazon. My dad opened the package and was thrilled, he immediately opened the box and pulled the contents out...much like a kid on Christmas. He snapped the 3-4 pieces together in just a few minutes. The first thing he mentioned was the extremely light weight of the unit, its literally weightless in your hand.Overall the fully assembled unit is very sturdy and feels durable yet light in your hand, which will come in handy for those long days of hunting. We popped in the 2-9volt batteries (not included) and headed outside. My parents have a fairly large yard, and within seconds we were beeping and locating items! We agreed since it was getting late and the mosquitoes were terrible it would just be a test to get a feel for it, but after the first "detection" of course... 5/5 Matt J. By comparison

I have both the Bounty Hunter Quick Silver, and the Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 models. With this reveiw you'll be getting a fair comparison of both. To start with. I dont't really see a clear advantage of the Discovery 3300, (the newest model) over the Quick Silver model. When the Quick Silver detects something that is buried in the ground. You can pretty much be assured there's something there. It doesn't seem to give false readings like the Discovery 3300 does. Although it doesn't detect as deep as the Discovery does. It lives up to it's name. It's much quicker. The Discovery will have you out digging up what I like to call, trash from the past. But not so much with the Quick Silver. Plus the Quick Silver seems to discrimate out an object much better than the Discovery. Yet, it cost a lot less. I have found a lot of coins, and two old metal die cast cars. One from 1946, and 1967, using the Quick Silver model. I bought them both through Amazon. Like everything I have ordered from... 5/5 Gary Watson (Spokane, WA) - See all my reviews, July 9, 2009

    Great Metal Detector Deal!!!

Let me first say I am a metal detector novice and while I have used metal detectors before I have never actually owned a metal detector prior to the Bounty Hunter Quick Silver. I had been wanting to get one for a while because I thought it would be something fun to use to spend some time with my kids on our property. This particular kit came with the metal detector and a mini pin-pointer.The metal detector itself is made mostly of plastic and feels pretty fragile, but it is so light you can search for hours without fatigue. Plus it is light enough for kids to use. I was really surprised how easy the push button controls and sounds were to get used to and how well it picked up buried objects and I actually found the discrimination feature useful for tracking down one particular metal type. The included pin-pointer is used to track down objects while you dig so you do not damage them. It only picks up the metal within an inch or so, but came in real handy to... 5/5 J. Conover (San Antonio) - See all my reviews, December 5, 2009

    I love it!

Hi. I have a growing collection of metal detectors from the $50 jobs up to the Garrett GTI 2500. While I like the performance of most of the BH line, I'm not too crazy about the display. Getting older, it's hard to see LCD segments.I was attracted to this mew BH model, especially after finding out BH makes more than a few other companies models.Yes, there is a lot of plastic on this model, but that's a GOOD thing, since it weighs almost nothing. I have a bunch of older Garretts in my collection (over a dozen) and although they are built like a tank, they weigh as much. Remember, the old Garretts (etc) didn't have the "S" shaped handle. Just the curved bicycle grip handle. BIG difference. So far, the Pro has done an excellent job and like a lot of reviewers state: Read the Manual.
