Bounty Hunter Tracker IV - No Experience Necessary

I figured that any metal detector would find the '32 Chevy buried in my backyard, but I wanted to find coins, rings, and Civil War relics in my 5 acre woods. It took 5 minutes to assemble the Tracker IV and about 15 minutes to review the instruction manual. Round up a few coins, a gold ring, and some nails and run through the demonstration on page 5 of the manual. It will give you an idea of how different objects respond to the 3 detection modes.I borrowed my wife's headphones (highly recommended) and headed for the woods. Within minutes I found beer cans, shotgun shells, nails. The detector will pinpoint an object close enough that you can dig it up with a few scoops of a garden trowel. On my second attempt I found a man's silver ring.Tracker IV appears to be well constructed and a good value. I don't have any experience with other detectors, but I can't imagine that any are easier to use than this one. Tracker IV is a great choice for your kids to use, if they... 5/5 Mike Harshe (Manassas, VA USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) From an experienced Treasure hunter

I have been doing this for 35 years and this is my 4th detector. My last one was a top of the line and had to part with it to raise money when I was out of work. I decided it was time to once again buy one and the price seemed right. Of course I cannot compare it to a $300 detector ( at the time ), you do really get what you pay for. Here is my take so far. The bad : No volumn control, one level fits all sound. Also, it was hard as heck to pinpoint the target. With my last detector, when I dug the hole, you simply placed the coil over the hole and found the object. With this unit, it only works when moving so you have to wave it back and forth while digging to locate the target. The good: It is super light weight, made almost 100% from plastic. You won't get tired as fast.Takes 2 9v batteries.( Batteries while wearing headphones last about 15-20 hours )Probably ok for a beginner, however if you are an avid hunter and you can afford, spend at least $200.Once... 3/5 LawMan87 "Travel Guru" (Central Florida) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great way to start!

When I started researching metal detectors before buying one for my husband, I was overwhelmed with all the reviews, ads, etc., I found on the internet. I printed out all the information that seemed to have a "voice of authority" behind it; it wasn't long before one brand/model seemed to take first place as the best choice for units under $300. Reviews from novices to experts concurred that the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV was a great buy as well as a great metal detector for novice to intermediate users. My husband is not someone who reads the instructions before using anything, but I showed him some of the printouts that warned against trying to use any metal detector without getting familiar with the instruction booklet first (because if you don't know what you're doing, you'll be frustrated and decide the detector doesn't work right). For once, he did spend time reading the instructions and then practicing with the detector as the directions advised. It wasn't long before he was... 5/5 Carolyn Mathews "Displaced Texan" (Horse Prairie, Montana) - See all my reviews, January 16, 2006

    Did it's job

First let me say I don't profess to know much about metal detecting. I bought this metal detector to find my wedding ring, which flew off my finger the other night while I was playing volleyball in the backyard with the kids (it was a chilly night and the ring was loose on my finger.) After an hour of searching, I figured it was worth it to buy an inexpensive metal detector in hopes of finding my ring.I ordered it on Wednesday, it arrived on Friday (2 day shipping for $3.99 with prime.) I put the batteries in, read through the well-written booklet and did the tests it suggested. We had no problems finding the test objects (penny, quarter, nail) so I started "sweeping" the area where I thought it might be. I found it within 15 minutes. Granted, it wasn't buried in the ground or anything, but we did have several other "hits" that were definitely objects in the ground - strong signals but we just didn't take the time to dig since I knew my ring was buried in grass, not... 5/5 Amazon Customer (Northern California) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Excellent kids detector!

0 5/5 lazfran98 - See all my reviews This review is from: Bounty Hunter BHJS Junior Metal Detector (Tools & Home Improvement) This detector is excellent for kids, The size is just right and it introduces them into the world of detecting. The detector is of good solid quality and is a little version of an entry level adult model. You do have to explain to them how to use the discrimination controls because they are kind of confusing for a kid but they pick it up quick. The detector has actually found old cans and coins that have been about 5 feet underground so it searches pretty deep. I recommend this product! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 13, 2008

This metal detector is, well, just ok...

I purchased this metal detector for myself and my BF. We've both never metal detected before as a hobby, but were interested in trying it out. We saw this Bounty Hunter "Gold Digger" model on Amazon for a fair price, and figured why not give it a go!Well, the unit is very user freindly! It's very easy to put together. It should take only about 10 minutes following the directions that come with the item. It simply operates using two 9-volt batteries. If this is a gift, don't forget the batteries...or the whole excitement factor just went out the window, lol. Anyway, we've since taken it out into the wooods a maybe a handful of times so far, and for all intensive purposes..it does an ok job. We found a few coins, some rusty nails and such, and it pretty much does what it was built to do.As we did more research, however, we've since discovered that if this is going to be a new hobby for someone...A LOT of time and energy can be saved by moving up to the next price... 3/5 J.E. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Mid-Priced Metal Detector - Recommended

The "Bounty Hunter Quick Draw II" (QDII) is a very good, feature rich, mid-priced metal detector. After doing a lot of research for a "real" metal detector as a gift for my teenage son, I found the features for the price made the QDII the clear choice. The QDII has features that are generally only found on higher priced units:* The LCD screen can indicate what type of metal has been found* Indicates approximate depth* The Notch Modes work well for filtering out most trash itemsWe have really enjoyed using this sensitive and accurate metal detector! The included "bonus" items are a Carrying Bag (a little smallish, but functional) and a "" (a small metal detector used to help locate items in the ground). Both are good quality and useful to have with the... 5/5 C. Hill "CFH" (South-Central, PA USA) - See all my reviews, January 6, 2009

    Bounty Hunter QDII

The Quickdraw II is a great all-around metal detector. I mostly use it in the "All metal" mode but have also used it to notch out unwanted metals where it performs as advertised. I've dug up relics and coins, and the coin ID has been accurate 99 percent of the time. You get used to the different sounds and after a while can guess what metal you're digging (tab, rusted can, etc). I don't believe the depth indicator works accurately on mine so I use it as a guide moreso than gospel. Many detector ads tout depth finding ability but how deep do you really need to go? Most of the stuff you'll find is not down that deep (2-8 inches or so - course your milege may vary). Took it to the beach and was satisfied. In the dry sand, it performed very well (get a good heavy-duty sand scooper for the beach). However, when used too close to the water or in wet sand, the detector gives off numerous false readings as the sodium in the water drives it crazy. To adjust, I turned the sensitivity... 4/5 M. Pinpointer is essential, Tones are helpful, Case is good, Shaft is adjustable

This is our first metal detector. We have operated it on four of five occasions for a total of about 8 hours. We tried the all metal mode, and the auto notch mode. The auto notch mode helps eliminate small iron objects like nails, and saves a lot of digging. We use it especially when looking for money. A great feature that comes on many metal detectors is the three tones. In our searching high tones were "good", so we would ignore low tones. We were searching a very old homestead and the place was littered with ancient rusted nails. The high tones allowed us to find a brass faucet, two flattened tuna cans, some interesting (but unrecognizable metal pieces), some huge bolts, an old 30 caliber rifle casing, some old drain pipes, etc.Our mode of operation is this. Dad (the meticulous one) searches, Mom (the go-getter) digs with the big shovel, and the Kids use the pinpointer to find the treasure. If we didn't have the pinpointer, this whole review would be... 5/5 Chem_prof - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Only one Major Problem!

Let me start by saying this was a gift for my dad. Hes been wanting a metal detector for as long as I remember. My mom and I did some collaborating and I purchased the Quick Silver on Amazon. My dad opened the package and was thrilled, he immediately opened the box and pulled the contents out...much like a kid on Christmas. He snapped the 3-4 pieces together in just a few minutes. The first thing he mentioned was the extremely light weight of the unit, its literally weightless in your hand.Overall the fully assembled unit is very sturdy and feels durable yet light in your hand, which will come in handy for those long days of hunting. We popped in the 2-9volt batteries (not included) and headed outside. My parents have a fairly large yard, and within seconds we were beeping and locating items! We agreed since it was getting late and the mosquitoes were terrible it would just be a test to get a feel for it, but after the first "detection" of course... 5/5 Matt J. By comparison

I have both the Bounty Hunter Quick Silver, and the Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 models. With this reveiw you'll be getting a fair comparison of both. To start with. I dont't really see a clear advantage of the Discovery 3300, (the newest model) over the Quick Silver model. When the Quick Silver detects something that is buried in the ground. You can pretty much be assured there's something there. It doesn't seem to give false readings like the Discovery 3300 does. Although it doesn't detect as deep as the Discovery does. It lives up to it's name. It's much quicker. The Discovery will have you out digging up what I like to call, trash from the past. But not so much with the Quick Silver. Plus the Quick Silver seems to discrimate out an object much better than the Discovery. Yet, it cost a lot less. I have found a lot of coins, and two old metal die cast cars. One from 1946, and 1967, using the Quick Silver model. I bought them both through Amazon. Like everything I have ordered from... 5/5 Gary Watson "GW" (Spokane, WA) - See all my reviews, July 9, 2009

    Great Metal Detector Deal!!!

Let me first say I am a metal detector novice and while I have used metal detectors before I have never actually owned a metal detector prior to the Bounty Hunter Quick Silver. I had been wanting to get one for a while because I thought it would be something fun to use to spend some time with my kids on our property. This particular kit came with the metal detector and a mini pin-pointer.The metal detector itself is made mostly of plastic and feels pretty fragile, but it is so light you can search for hours without fatigue. Plus it is light enough for kids to use. I was really surprised how easy the push button controls and sounds were to get used to and how well it picked up buried objects and I actually found the discrimination feature useful for tracking down one particular metal type. The included pin-pointer is used to track down objects while you dig so you do not damage them. It only picks up the metal within an inch or so, but came in real handy to... 5/5 J. Conover (San Antonio) - See all my reviews, December 5, 2009

This is the V4 latest version-not the one pictured but I'm OK with that as its a great value

I was hoping for the earlier (V2-3) Time Ranger because the older units had target ID in the all metal modes-wich I use a lot.But I must say even without the target ID the all metal mode is very capable in finding even the tiniest bits of metal or deeply burried coins. It is very sensitive & is best suited for prospecting or "hunted out" locations.I find it about the best choice for the sandy beaches of the Columbia River-it gets past the high mineralization and doesn't need constant fiddling with the ground balance so I can concentrate on signals..I did manage my deepest nickle-a 1958 @ 7" measured-that gave me enough of a signal in the discrimination mode to verify the target in the all metal mode. I was suprised by the depth-well past my pro-pointer even after my 5" plug was out.But what I really find unique about this unit is the notch allows you to select gold only range targets & ignore high conductors. Or even handier is the "sniff" mode-It... 5/5 Carl in Oregon "FDR fan" (Fairview,Oregon) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Bounty Hunter Sharpshooter II

I purchased this as a compliment to my son's BH EX detector so we could spend time away from his WII and PSP. Not being experienced with detectors and the features available I first spent time online watching tutorials etc... (Recommended!) With insight gained from experts the criteria for purchase came down to: discrimination, notching, motionless detection, penetration depth, and price. The BH sharpshooter II met all of these. Particularly the price was interesting as it is a recently discontinued model. To date the unit has performed very well. There is some 'chatter' in the discriminate and notch modes. Mostly big ferrous stuff will set off a random combination of tones regardless of the tuning. Dig a few of these and you quickly learn to listen to what the unit is telling you. Conversely, a solid tone is equally clear to the user once one learns to 'listen' to the unit. I've found the motionless 'all metal' detection mode particularly useful to gain a sense of the size and... 5/5 weekend warrior - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Detector

0 5/5 Ralph S. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Bounty Hunter SS2 Sharpshooter II Metal Detector (Lawn & Patio) This is a great first-timer metal detector. Within minutes of unpacking, my son and I were on the hunt, finding assorted items right in our yard. The controls are easy to work and the unit is well balanced in your hand. The low price really iced the cake for me and I am very satisfied with this purchase. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 22, 2012

This detector is easy to use and works well.

This metal detector is easy to use and I really like it's digital display that ACCURATELY identifies the type of metal found. I got it as a gift for my dad, but couldn't help trying it out before giving it to him. As a test, it easily found coins and keys tossed randomly thru the yard. I've also found coins and nails that were lost years before. I also successfully used it to find an odd-shaped aluminum spacer that dropped from my motorcycle somewhere in the gravel driveway. I'm giving this one to my dad, but will buy another for myself. The motorcycle parts incident convinced me this detector is well worth the $90. I would suggest buying a 4x4 plastic tarp, small shovel, and some gardening hand troughs and rakes for use while detecting. We developed a good technique for yard-metal detecting. After getting a signal, cut up a cube of earth. Place the cube of earth on the tarp. Scan the cube to see if the metal is in it. Use the hand tools to break up the dirt cube and find... 4/5 Scottro "SG" (Pittsburgh, PA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Good, Reliable Bag

For the life of me, I don't understand why this product has gotten so many negative reviews; though, I am guessing it is because people are not fully researching the product to see if their equipment fits, or perhaps they are not purchasing the proper bag to carry and store their detectors. However, I find this bag to be great for carrying and storing my Bounty Hunter TRACKER IV metal detector, along with the headphones and the spare detector coil. It's actually quite roomy and is the perfect length for my detector, and I find the straps inside the bag helpful in securing the detector. I do have to separate the detector into two pieces before storage, but that is not a problem to me. Though it looks thin, the bag is actually padded enough to protect its contents (my metal detector came out without a scratch after a 5+ hour car trip in which we heard it moving around in the trunk from time to time) and it also keeps them protected from the elements. I wouldn't buy another one.

Just a rectangular bag with handles.

0 3/5 JKE "BigJake" (Phoenix, AZ USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) The quality of this carry bag is just fine. But that's about it. There are no padded dividers, or any type of padded compartments, or any padding anywhere for that matter, or any rigidity to the bottom, or any type of configuration structures inside the bag for holding and PROTECTING your expensive Detector equipment. Which would then make this plain square bag and really nice and really useful carry bag. Instead, it's just nothing more than a rectangular (thin) nylon bag with two little 'universal' velcro straps in side and two strap handles on the outside. Overall, I was VERY disappointed at the lack of design and total lack of any protective padding in this Metal Detector Carry Bag. I guess it is better than nothing......but just barely. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 27, 2008
