This metal detector is, well, just ok...

I purchased this metal detector for myself and my BF. We've both never metal detected before as a hobby, but were interested in trying it out. We saw this Bounty Hunter "Gold Digger" model on Amazon for a fair price, and figured why not give it a go!Well, the unit is very user freindly! It's very easy to put together. It should take only about 10 minutes following the directions that come with the item. It simply operates using two 9-volt batteries. If this is a gift, don't forget the batteries...or the whole excitement factor just went out the window, lol. Anyway, we've since taken it out into the wooods a maybe a handful of times so far, and for all intensive purposes..it does an ok job. We found a few coins, some rusty nails and such, and it pretty much does what it was built to do.As we did more research, however, we've since discovered that if this is going to be a new hobby for someone...A LOT of time and energy can be saved by moving up to the next price... 3/5 J.E. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) BOUNTY HUNTER GOLD DIGGER METAL DETECTOR

5/5 TREASURE SEEKER - See all my reviews This review is from: Bounty Hunter Gold Digger Metal Detector (Lawn & Patio) This is a good buy for the price, the GOLD DIGGER does what it claims to do.I took it to a local beach in my area i found anything from a penny to aluminum foil, some of the objects was small and about six inches or so deep. You do find a lot of trash but i found it to be very sensitive to objects of all metals when trash eleminator was off,but this way you miss nothing. Also it can detect larger objects at greater depths,it was fun to use and i recommend it to anyone. Very impressed for the price!

Ok, so I bought this for my 8 year old daughter, but I use it more. It is very simple sound based detector, once you get used to the high and low tones I have found about 90% plus accuracy for filtering out pull tabs and trash. My friend bought a $699 detector and each time we have gone out, I have found more than he has. His has a greater depth detection, but he ends up spending more time on deep stuff that ends up being trash. I even set up 3 trails of different coins in the grass and my daughter found all of hers well before the other two people. Recently I bought a more expensive detector Swarm Series MX100 for myself and there are too many random sounds and too many things to look at on the screen, I end up going back to use the Bounty hunter when we are out. I found it too difficult to pinpoint the actual item on the new one , where the bounty hunter tone gets highest when you are directly over the item. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, especially starters. I... 4/5 Kyle H Knop (Carrollton, TX United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Bounty Hunter Tracker IV - No Experience Necessary

I figured that any metal detector would find the '32 Chevy buried in my backyard, but I wanted to find coins, rings, and Civil War relics in my 5 acre woods. It took 5 minutes to assemble the Tracker IV and about 15 minutes to review the instruction manual. Round up a few coins, a gold ring, and some nails and run through the demonstration on page 5 of the manual. It will give you an idea of how different objects respond to the 3 detection modes.I borrowed my wife's headphones (highly recommended) and headed for the woods. Within minutes I found beer cans, shotgun shells, nails. The detector will pinpoint an object close enough that you can dig it up with a few scoops of a garden trowel. On my second attempt I found a man's silver ring.Tracker IV appears to be well constructed and a good value. I don't have any experience with other detectors, but I can't imagine that any are easier to use than this one. Tracker IV is a great choice for your kids to use, if they... 5/5 Mike Harshe (Manassas, VA USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) From an experienced Treasure hunter

I have been doing this for 35 years and this is my 4th detector. My last one was a top of the line and had to part with it to raise money when I was out of work. I decided it was time to once again buy one and the price seemed right. Of course I cannot compare it to a $300 detector ( at the time ), you do really get what you pay for. Here is my take so far. The bad : No volumn control, one level fits all sound. Also, it was hard as heck to pinpoint the target. With my last detector, when I dug the hole, you simply placed the coil over the hole and found the object. With this unit, it only works when moving so you have to wave it back and forth while digging to locate the target. The good: It is super light weight, made almost 100% from plastic. You won't get tired as fast.Takes 2 9v batteries.( Batteries while wearing headphones last about 15-20 hours )Probably ok for a beginner, however if you are an avid hunter and you can afford, spend at least $200.Once... 3/5 LawMan87 (Central Florida) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great way to start!

When I started researching metal detectors before buying one for my husband, I was overwhelmed with all the reviews, ads, etc., I found on the internet. I printed out all the information that seemed to have a "voice of authority" behind it; it wasn't long before one brand/model seemed to take first place as the best choice for units under $300. Reviews from novices to experts concurred that the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV was a great buy as well as a great metal detector for novice to intermediate users. My husband is not someone who reads the instructions before using anything, but I showed him some of the printouts that warned against trying to use any metal detector without getting familiar with the instruction booklet first (because if you don't know what you're doing, you'll be frustrated and decide the detector doesn't work right). For once, he did spend time reading the instructions and then practicing with the detector as the directions advised. This detector is easy to use and works well.

This metal detector is easy to use and I really like it's digital display that ACCURATELY identifies the type of metal found. I got it as a gift for my dad, but couldn't help trying it out before giving it to him. As a test, it easily found coins and keys tossed randomly thru the yard. I've also found coins and nails that were lost years before. I also successfully used it to find an odd-shaped aluminum spacer that dropped from my motorcycle somewhere in the gravel driveway. I'm giving this one to my dad, but will buy another for myself. The motorcycle parts incident convinced me this detector is well worth the $90. I would suggest buying a 4x4 plastic tarp, small shovel, and some gardening hand troughs and rakes for use while detecting. We developed a good technique for yard-metal detecting. After getting a signal, cut up a cube of earth. Place the cube of earth on the tarp. Scan the cube to see if the metal is in it. Use the hand tools to break up the dirt cube and find... 4/5 Scottro (Pittsburgh, PA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Bounty Hunter QSI Quick Silver Metal Detector (Lawn & Patio) Unless you're a professional sleuth requiring a $1,000+ metal detector for a tax deduction, the Quick Silver is a bargain you can't pass up. The first day, we found an 1888 dime in fairly good condition. That was enough to sell me on the hobby and the tool. This one is very light and not at all complex like the one we bought about 10 years ago for more than 5 times the price. Good, Reliable Bag

For the life of me, I don't understand why this product has gotten so many negative reviews; though, I am guessing it is because people are not fully researching the product to see if their equipment fits, or perhaps they are not purchasing the proper bag to carry and store their detectors. However, I find this bag to be great for carrying and storing my Bounty Hunter TRACKER IV metal detector, along with the headphones and the spare detector coil. It's actually quite roomy and is the perfect length for my detector, and I find the straps inside the bag helpful in securing the detector. I do have to separate the detector into two pieces before storage, but that is not a problem to me. Though it looks thin, the bag is actually padded enough to protect its contents (my metal detector came out without a scratch after a 5+ hour car trip in which we heard it moving around in the trunk from time to time) and it also keeps them protected from the elements. Just a rectangular bag with handles.

3/5 JKE (Phoenix, AZ USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) The quality of this carry bag is just fine. But that's about it. There are no padded dividers, or any type of padded compartments, or any padding anywhere for that matter, or any rigidity to the bottom, or any type of configuration structures inside the bag for holding and PROTECTING your expensive Detector equipment. Which would then make this plain square bag and really nice and really useful carry bag. Instead, it's just nothing more than a rectangular (thin) nylon bag with two little 'universal' velcro straps in side and two strap handles on the outside. Overall, I was VERY disappointed at the lack of design and total lack of any protective padding in this Metal Detector Carry Bag. I guess it is better than nothing......but just barely. I love it!

Hi. I have a growing collection of metal detectors from the $50 jobs up to the Garrett GTI 2500. While I like the performance of most of the BH line, I'm not too crazy about the display. Getting older, it's hard to see LCD segments.I was attracted to this mew BH model, especially after finding out BH makes more than a few other companies models.Yes, there is a lot of plastic on this model, but that's a GOOD thing, since it weighs almost nothing. I have a bunch of older Garretts in my collection (over a dozen) and although they are built like a tank, they weigh as much. Remember, the old Garretts (etc) didn't have the "S" shaped handle. Just the curved bicycle grip handle. BIG difference. So far, the Pro has done an excellent job and like a lot of reviewers state: Read the Manual. Beautiful, comprehensive display!!!!I have also made a test board which is 8' long with different coins, trash etc glued to one side. It's fun and really helps... 5/5 Ron Bussiere - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Bounty Hunter Land Ranger Pro Metal Detector (Lawn & Patio) Hi. It has very good depth, great adjustability, very accurate, lots-o-features, light weight/well designed, etc. If it says somthing is there, bank on it! I have found a ton of coins, some rings, jewelery, and tools with this detector, and look forward to using it every time. Battery life for the two 9 volts is pretty good, just the same I bought 9volt rechargables to save some $$$.I bought mine on a super sale for less than half of the current price, so even with its great results, you might look at other detectors in its current price range just to see how they compare.
